EXPRESSION AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF IGFBP-3 AND MMP-14 IN COLORECTAL CANCER

Objective: To investigate the expression and clinical significance of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) and matrix metalloproteinases-14 (MMP-14) in colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of IGFBP-3 and MMP-14 in 70 cases of CRC, 30 cases of colorectal adenoma (CRA) and 20 cases of normal colorectal mucosa (NM). The relationships between IGFBP-3, MMP-14 and clinical pathological features of CRC, as well as the correlations between IGFBP-3 and MMP-14 in CRC were analyzed. Results: In CRC, the MMP-14 protein expression was obviously higher than CRA and NM; the MMP-14 expression was concerned with depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage (P<0.01, P<0.05). In CRC, the IGFBP-3 protein expression was obviously lower than CRA and NM; the IGFBP-3 expression was concerned with lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage (P<0.05). In CRC, the expression of MMP-14 was negatively correlated with the expression of IGFBP-3 (r=-0.460, P<0.05). Conclusions: IGFBP-3 and MMP-14 may have synergistic effects and participate in the process of development, invasion and metastasis of CRC jointly.

Objective: To investigate the expression and significance of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGF-IR) and glucose transporter-4 (GLUT-4) in colorectal carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical stain was used to detect the expression of IGF-I, IGF-IR and GLUT-4 protein in 70 cases colorectal carcinoma, 30 cases colorectal adenoma and 20 cases normal colorectal mucosa; and the correlations of aboving three factors in colorectal carcinoma were also analyzed. Results: The expression of IGF-I, IGF-IR and GLUT-4 in colorectal carcinoma were significantly higher than that of normal colorectal mucosa and colorectal adenoma(P<0.01). In colorectal carcinoma, the expression of IGF-I was positively correlated with IGF-IR and GLUT4 (r=0.412,0.396, P<0.01). Conclusions: IGF-I, IGF-IR and GLUT-4 may play an important role in development of colorectal carcinoma.
